The whole point of my website it to learn new techniques. Using a converting feature on a WYSYWYG <yuck> defeats the whole purpose.

OK come on, this WAS an interesting CSS thread. We don't want to know what package you do your code in.

Speaking of CSS, my CSS is not validating, pah, gotta go back to the drawing board.

    The Slayer has spoken!!

Right, Nicky and Russell, I use external CSS stylesheets, I notice you don't. I use external CSS because I might wanna change my entire colour scheme, but not have to rebuild my site, cos it's too big, and I'm lazy.

Do you see any benefits in using internal CSS??

Huh? I use external style sheets. I link to them from my header file. I also use SSI which means if I want to change the link to the CSS file I just change one file!

moonman I also use external style sheets, I just dont do it on my personal site seeing as how it only has one page

Ok getting back on track, using absolute positioning to .... ahh 'position' everything on your site gets a little tedious after awhile, but I'm determined to do it!

I'd recommend anyone thinking of doing this too:

    - build your site using a wysiwyg (or however you feel comfortable).
    - When the design is to your liking, use CSS to position everything and to do all the text formatting etc.

    Have fun

    Just noticed this.

Nicky, all frontpage does is add the /> at the end of all those html tags that dont have them, like <img> etc. Yes I know its cheating but it gets it done quicker

Are you done yet Nicky? I had a go at this a while ago after seeing glish.com -- made me think. But then I realised I really didn't have much of a clue what I was doing, so reverted to what I know best -- tables.

But I wanna have another go. Positioning is the one that gets me all the time -- absolute/relative, don't really have a clue about that!

It's because of the "hacks" you're using.

weird, dont be afraid, my page loads ALOT quicker with the css/xhtml method then it would if it were all tables! there isnt really that much to actually learn and once you start getting it, you start to enjoy it more and more... especially when it comes out looking the same in different browsers

Sketch, that's a good article about workarounds for the box model, but this is a good one on positioning.
