You're not paying for the software. You're paying for the additional documentation, the pre-setup stuff, and the tech support.
Red Hat Database has integrated and tested Red Hat Linux 7.1 and PostgreSQL 7.1.2. In addition to the software, the product includes Red Hat Installer, enhanced documentation, phone and Web support, and a monthly subscription providing regular updates, all seamlessly integrated, to minimize installation time and get businesses up and running fast. Red Hat Database is specifically designed to enable more efficient business growth, such as Web and e-business deployments requiring quick implementation by organizations with little database expertise.

This MUST be a joke.
1) PgSql is open source, i could understand paying maybe $100 for an advanced box set.. but 2000!!!?
2) Buying an O'Reilly PgSql tutorial gets you PgSql 7.1 with documentation anyway.
Were you being sarcastic?

Its for real and its not just postgre its redhat also. The price may seem outrageous to people who are used to just getting it for free and figuring it out for themselves, but a business would see that as quite a fair price when compared with alternatives.

It includes Red Hat Linux 7.1
I think businesses would consider that a pretty fair price for a tested, documented and supported RDBMS. It's actually pretty similar in price to MS SQL.

Yeah I'm sure that documentation comes in the packaging too. I bought RedHat Linux 6.1 Basic a while back for just $30 and it had 2 books with it. Plus the support and RedHat Network subscription.
The craziest open source software+support package I have seen is an extension to SNORT. Basically the software they are selling is a front end to Snort and it includes Snort at its core. The price...... $20,000!
