    Photoshop Curves a Square Selection

When I apply a stroke to a square object (either by Edit > Stroke or Layer > Layer Style > Stroke) why does Photoshop sometimes put a slight rounding on the corners instead of keeping the stroke perfectly square? I must have changed a setting, but I can't find what could be doing it.

It's working like this - you cannot change the way it creates the rounded stroke around the sharp corners. You have to achieve it a different way.

What would be a good way to achieve it then?

    Do you have Adobe Illustrator?
If not - are all your objects squares or rectangles?

Not sure, what you're getting at, but I don't have Illustrator. I do use the Shape Tool a lot in Photoshop if that means anything.

Illustrator offers great "offset" feature, which keeps the sharp corners when creating objects outline plus with Illustrator you can decide whether you want object strokes to be round or sharp.

But since you don't have illustrator, we'll try to find a different way.
Are all your objects rectangles/squares? If sou, you can create an outline manually, by selecting the objects' shape, filling it and moving a few pixels up, down and both sides.

I did something like you suggest as a workaround, but I thought there would be in easier way within Photoshop.
