Inline background images

OK, I know I am missing something simple here but I am not able to figure it out for the life of me.

All I want to do is put three(3) block level elements on the same line with a background image.(see attachment) But the moment I put in display:inline; in the css for a H tag the background images disappear. I know this is simple enough but I am missing something here. Would appreciate someone ending this frustration for me.

Hi,

Inline elements cannot accept dimensions. If you want block level elements on the same line then float them. (You could also use display:inline-block but its not supported in FF2 and is complicated to make work in IE also.)

Well, that is good news and bad news. Bad because it wont work and good because I was not going crazy.
