I'd have to say commenters. Yes, I like loyal subscribers, but I enjoy reading other peoples views to what I have written even more.

I would value commenters more as I myself subscribe to many blogs (through RSS) but I have not read many of them at all. I participate (comment) on those I read (and subscribe) the most often.

I don't know what to answer. I choose the option that can bring me more money and i suppose that this can be possible only with many subscribers.
if the subscribers are not adding any comment and whereas you have a good number of commenters who are are regular to the site, they read and comment on your blog, I would prefer to have more commenters as they add value to the blog.![]()

It is always interesting to the things people write commenting your stories. However, not every commenter is a regular visitor or subscriber, often they come by a link, read your story, leave a comment and go away.

Why choose subscribers or commenter's? Why not give people the option to subscribe to either get more out of your site, or give them additional commenting options as well as allowing anybody to comment?
Commenters give you more content. I'ma have to go with that.

I think subscribers are visitor that admit you. Eventhough commenters are people that interest with your post or sometimes just spamming you. I prefer have both many subscribers and commenters.![]()

subscribers because most comments are spam
I prefer to have more "constructive" commenters rather than subscribers/lurkers.![]()

And I guess there are only few people who leave rational comments

Commenters are very important to any blog, but it would be unrealistic for them to expect you to comment to every reply if it is a blog which gets lots of comments.
I would pick a few key ones for a subject and just reply to those in a generic way so that no one gets hurt you didn't reply to them. In other words, pull some ideas from other similar replies of commenters and reply all at once without using a name.

Visitors that leave comments are more important for me - I like free user-generated content.

Most of my regular commenters became my on-line friends. I like the way they criticize my posts because they want me to improve more. It also feels good that they admit they are also my subscribers.
I think commenter are loyal readers. Because they comment on your post after reading the post seriously.
In my case the comments are what I'd love more. I never got to manage the subscription part too much (it's always the default setting) and I never spent too much time on this either. But getting comments is something I really like and I try to build up a content that would get these comments.
Definitely would go with commenters.

I think it is now obvious that more bloggers prefer more commenters. So why not invite your subscribers to open your blog. Maybe, they can post comments too.
I like fresh customers the best... neither subscribers or commentors
