Question Need Help With My Automated Website

    Hello,

I have just finished building my automated website, www.simplehealth123.com, and need help with the downloading page. My website is designed in such a manner that a visitor who is interested in my product can order it using their credit card and download it immediately. My concerned is that the URL of my download page will be distributed and people will download my product for free. Is there anyway I can prevent this from happening, but at the same time keeping the website on auto-pilot? I thought about making the download page password protected, but then that would defeat the purpose creating the site to be automated cause then I would have to have contact with every buyer to give them the password. PLEASE HELP!

There are a couple of ways to do it:

    1) Open up the download link in a new window which has no toolbars etc -- so it hides the link. Not impenetrable but might deter some people.

    2) Use a db lookup to mask the download link.

    3) Just change the download link every now and then -- provided the page is only looking for a common variable, it won't matter what the actual path to the file is (or easy enough to write this in)

    4) Do some simple protection, so that as and when the CC Is authorised, simply set a variable -- if people access your download page without having that variable set, then they aren't allowed the file.

    A few ideas...

Oh and I noticed an error (I think) --- at the payment bit of the page you say "Buy Simple Cash today" -- shouldn't that be Simple Health!?

    thanks

thanks for catching the error! I have two websites, Simple Health and Simple Cash and sometimes I get them confused. Thanks!

I am interested in your number 2 idea. How would I go about implementing that?

why dont you use sessions, this will definately slow people down as they would have to register to your site in order to buy your product.

    have a look

Ok thanks Andrew, I'm looking at your suggestion right now.

What is the easiest way to mask the download link? Remember, I'm far from a HTML guru.

    thanks!

use sessions in the url. So it will be the persons session id followed by a link, if they havent registed a valid session then they wont be able to access it as the session has to be valid in order to access the files.

    heres an example of macromedia

    dynamic.macromedia.com/cgi-bin/MM/software/trial/hwswrec.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1175575153.1018368556@@@@&BV_EngineID=djadcdkggfefdbeecgemcgchf.0

however this is a jsp example, but php will look something similar.

each session id is unique and on the server side you can give that link a valid link for them to download using the session so it remains hidden at all times
