    how'd they do that? (a&e miniseries website)

    I'm talking about this site here: http://www.aetv.com/the-andromeda-strain/

    any ideas at all how they made the background image show through the sidebar images? if you view the background images in the sidebar, they're gray (link). and there is a main background image for the whole page that shows through (link). i know the png can have some transparency but I thought that wasn't very reliable. maybe it is that simple and i'm a huge dork.

    I would love to recreate this for a fella's atv riding club site i'm doing.

    Wow. I guess it's been a while since I contemplated browser transparency effects. I've been living in a vacuum ever since I decided to go to design school hehe.

    I love the way css handles it. It's nice on the a&e site because the gray background boxes can have a variable transparency across the image (via png alpha channel), but the option of using pure css is cool too.

    Ahhh, I love code.

    Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
