Talking I need a Basic no thrills WYSIWYG to link into my CMS, can you please help?

Hello, I need a very simple WYSIWYG. All it needs to do is:

    needed

    1. Create headers.
    2. make text italic, bold or underlined.
    3. Create lists.
    4. create simple tables.
    5. create and remove links.
    6. create special characters

    additional possibilitys

    7. superscript and subscript
    8. a "find" feature

It all needs to be plain text, formated to simple valid xhtml with no stying. Any additional features would need to be removed.

I am debating with myself whether I should try and make this myself or buy a product online. I would rather buy a product, but cant find any at the moment that suit my needs. My javascript knowlege is quite low at the moment but im a keen learner.

Can you please suggest any products that you think would be suitable please.

    Thank you as always

The most popular ones out there are TinyMCE and FCKeditor, and both are free. With a bit of customization you can get it to work the way you want. If you're already using a JS framework, almost all frameworks have some sort of RTE that's made for them.

RTEF is an open source fork of Kevin Roth's original RTE. You can easily comment out lines in the main script that add buttons you don't want.
