Linking in my Content

Right now my site doesn't have links that are in my content...would it be a good idea to cross-link my pages with links even though my site isn't that big?

Yes, if you are using Wordpress then there are many Related Post plugins which add links at the bottom of your posts to related posts that you have made. Furthermore, if you are writing about something that is slightly related to another post, why not reference to the older post as well? If it is an old post, it can sometimes be quite hard to generate traffic for it.

Definitely get some internal links, especially if you have deep links that the crawler can't get to, or doesn't index frequently/properly. You could also manipulate PR like this, but I wouldn't recommend going down that path.

Internal linking is great, and necessary. Not only does it help your actual users get around the site, who are I'm assuming what you built the site for, but it also helps the search engines hit pages more easily.

One thing to link about when internal linking is to name the links very similar to what you would name them if they were on an external site. For instance, why call the link to your main page 'Home' when it could be called 'Golfing Home'. The same thing goes for other links such as the dreaded 'back' or 'continue' links that everyone has surely seen a million times.

Cross linking internally is a good idea, but don't overdo it. Remember, build your pages like something you would want to read. Do you want to read a bunch of links? Or, do you want to read a good article with a couple extra links to other pages scattered in relevant sections that don't hurt the appeal?

Great advice here! I would add one word of caution about adding links in the text. If your site has that one super important page where you really want the user to read what you have to say, or to call, or to click submit, etc., don't give them a lot of options to navigate away from that page. Once they get to your all important page, you don't want them navigating away before they do what you need them to do.

the simple answer is yes. Don't worry about the size of the site it's good practice to start doing this now
