Drop Down Menu not transparent in IE6

Just started to design a site ( I am relativley new to CSS) and have got a drop down menu working ok in FF but is not transparent in IE6, have tried all sorts of fixes but this is driving me insane please please please help.

I can't see the attachments yet because they are pending approval, but you should read this article on CSS transparency. All browsers handle it differently.

Your attachments haven't been approved yet so I can't see, but most probably it's using a semi-transparent PNG as a background for the drop down. IE6 does not support PNG alpha transparency.

Can you post a link to where you're having the problem just so I can be sure?

The fix is to have everyone upgrade their IE

Do GIFs not give you the quality you need?

WHy would gifs be any different? Tried them but still not transparent, Am running java file from

"IE7, version 0.9 (alpha) (2005-08-19)

But still no luck!! Arrgggg this is frustrating

Yes, there are fixes for PNG alpha transparency in IE6. My favourite is SuperSleight, however it won't work for background images.

You won't find a PNG alpha transparency fix that will work for background images I'm afraid.

The GIF is not transparent? Did you save it with transparency enabled? Could you post your code here since it's not approved yet?

Possibility GIFs do not support semi transparency. Only 100% transparency. The guy wants the drop down menu to be semi transparent. This is not achievable with GIFs.

My solution would be to use a dropdown menu that didn't use semi transparent PNGs, but used a CSS transaprecy method instead:
