How can I associate GIF files with Fireworks?

For some reason, GIF files on my system do not have an icon that is associated with a specific program, like Fireworks. How can I have GIF files appear with the Fireworks icon?

    Thanks,
    Ron

I'm assuming you're using a version of windows (xp?)...so just follow the instructions here and you're good to go.

    Hi Ingo,
Thanks for the link. And, yes, I am running on WinXP.

I did follow the instructions to have GIF (and PNG) files open with Fireworks CS3; but, the small icon for these file types is just the generic icon for an image file. Is there any way to have these file types show the Fireworks icon? For example, my HTM files show the Firefox doc icon. Can I do that with the image file types?

    Thanks,
    Ron

Well, if the file-association is done, it should display the corresponding icon...if it doesn't maybe you can hit refresh (F5) in a folder that contains such files (gifs)...if that doesn't help: did you restart since changing the association?

what version of Fireworks? I have the same problem with FW 8. I've tried it all and it won't take. Most of the time, I can't even get the app to show in the list. browsing to FW doesn't work either...
