air question - external window events

Wasnt sure quite where to post this, since i build my air applications with html/jquery this seemed as good a place as any. Is it possible with adobe air to detect external window events, specifically the opening of an instance of a browser ?

From what I know about air, which is next to nothing, it produces html/js/ajax and maybe flash apps. I guess that air is not required on the user's machine, so there's nothing special about the code you create with air? Therefore you're limited to the events that javascript and flash can detect. Javascript cannot detect whether a new browser has been opened by the user.

AIR has the ability to open something in an external browser, but cannot capture events outside of its own domain. The only thing it knows from the system is simple things like clipboard and total memory. There's also hardware interfaces to the microphone and webcam. As for opening in an external browser through AIR:
