Anyone use calculators like glurk and sedo?

I was wondering if anyone finds glurk.com or sedo domain appraisals valuable? Can they be used for any type of starting point?

I ask because I recently calculated my site on glurk and it was like in the 400k range, where elsewhere the same site is around 80k.

I've found tools like that to be wildly inaccurate.

No buyer is going to buy based on glurk or sedo. The tools are completely useless and sellers should avoid them (and their associated fees) completely.

Put it this way, if I think your site is worth 10K and you have a piece of paper from the President that says it's worth 400K, my response'll be: let the President pay that.

Sites are only worth what someone'll pay. Unless Sedo is saying "we'll give you X", the paper's less than useless.

You know.. might be best to just put it up for auction and set a big "Buy It Now" price which can, if you wish, be based on all these automatic appraisal services. This way, you get to see whether the appraisal was really correct while at the same time getting the actual worth.

Only thing is.. can you put sites on auction without actually intending to sell it? Just to see how much would people offer should you decide to sell it?

Item #9 of the auction participant rules -
Sellers may not create an auction if they have no intention of selling (for example, if they only want a valuation). If an auction indicates or implies that the seller does not intend to sell, it may be suspended or removed by a moderator. A seller is allowed to change his or her mind and decide not to sell after the auction has started, solong as no bids have been accepted.

Thanks catweasel - It would be a waste of people's time to put up a listing that's just fishing for a price.

Fair enough. Though I was really asking in general, if there is a way to put up a site for a valuation auction somewhere, sitepoint or not.

    Thanks
