Linux Help - Please - what version??
Hi Guys 'n Gals
Sorry to post this here, but I couldn't see a linux section - so.. PHP being part of LAMP... Well, tort someone might know... Maybe...
I have an old laptop, it's got a 1000mhz processor and 128mb ram..
I want to install linux on it, but a) haven't got that much exp with Linux and b) don't know much about the OS in general..
I just am getting fed up of Windows!!
My knowledge stretches to using X-Windows about 8 years ago..
I have looked at Ubuntu, as the desktop looks cool and a friend said it's quite easy to get ya head around, but the site says you need atleast 256mb ram..
Any ideas / help, would be fantastic
Take care,

Give it a try. Download Live CD and try to boot from it and work. I would suggest Xubuntu - because Xfce is lighter than KDE/Gnome.

Aha - I have found my post
Hi there Aleksejs
Thank you for replying...
Err.. I went to the XUbuntu site - it said (and I am totally not being rude here):
Once installed, Xubuntu can run with 192 MB RAM, but it is strongly recommended to have at least 256 MB RAM.
Is there a version that is suitable or this??
Pretend I am stupid... then explain... I am a beginner at Linux!!
Thanks in advance,

I know that (sorry, but that's how it's called
) Damn Small Linux has very low requirements:
# Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram
# Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (you will be amazed at how fast your computer can be!)
