How to install/manage more than one Wordpress blog?

    hello.

I'd be grateful for a little advice.

I recently installed a local version of Wordpress on my pc using XAMPP.

I want to create more than one blog on different domains eg:

    www.blog1.com
    www.blog2.com

How to I download a second blog onto my machine?

I would prefer to manage them both from one central admin. location.

I want to eventually transfer each local blog up to its own domain.

I only just survived doing it once!!

    Thank you in advance.

    BG

I'm not sure this would work for WP but I would try set up a different database, and link that to a particular theme. Using this logic it you would then be able to just switch themes when you work on a different site. (this works for other CMS's - as I said, not sure about WP!)

Have a look here and see what is recommended: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Multiple_Blogs

I guess it may depend on what you're trying to accomplish. If you only want two, then it may be best to setup a couple of databases and manually install two.

If, on the other hand, you want many (possibly more than two), you should consider http://mu.wordpress.org/. That's the actual software that they use to run wordpress.com and would manage most of the nuts and bolts for adding as many blogs as you like.

If you have trouble setting it up, I have a link somewhere that might help you with it. Just post a reply here.

    Hello Daniel!

Yes, welcome to the forums- and thank you for the great advice (armchaircritic too !

I'm not sure whether I'll need anymore than 5 blogs just now- so I'm not certain I need MU.

How do I practically install another blog in my localhost so that I can easily switch between managing and using one central admin?

Just now, I'm the only user.

(I'm still new to Wordpress sorry).

    Thank you again.

Great question. The most important element to making wordpress blogs live happily together is to give them their own database. This is pretty easy if you are using CPANEL (are you)? Even without CPANEL it is quite easy.

Tell me a little more about your host and I'll try to write up some simple instructions.

After reading through, I agree that Wordpress MU is probably a good bet, considering that you want to manage multiple blogs from one location.
