    9 million back links?

Ok here goes, I just started a site 2 weeks ago. When I went and did a web check for back links and rank it said there were "Yahoo BackLinks: 9,920,000" I am wondering why so many and is this a bad thing? There is free content on the site that can be downloaded, am I looking at trouble here. I'm new to this stuff.

There's no such thing as a bad backlink. At worst a bad link will simply be ignored.

As to why you have so many, well, just look at where they are coming from. Yahoo SiteExplorer can tell you where they come from. It sounds like a large site must have given you a link on every page. That's just a guess though.

That sounds like a lot for a 2 week old site. I think a little more investigation might be needed.

    Can you post the URL?
It's 530 people, but do you really get it?

    url of website

http://flash-candy.com is there any way this can work against me. Seems to be a fake inflation of numbers, I mean the sites only been up 2 weeks and doesn't even have an alexa rank, how can it have that many backlinks, spiders?

I just searched Yahoo, and I am not getting 9 million. I wonder if you put a space after the colon.

That screenshot is through a third party website. It's obviously broken. You should be going straight to Yahoo for this.

I get nothing on Yahoo. I think the tool you used may be flawed.

From 9,920,000 to 21 links in a blink thats gotta hurt! But the 21 seems more realistic. Nice tip to not trust the tool!

    Yes, some tools are "tools"

Is a backlink generated when someone links or bookmarks your site? I would assume it only counts a hard link on a specific web page, is that correct. So it would be good to "network as much as possible correct?

Only links count. Bookmarks do not.

No. "Networking" can be dangerous if not done intelligently. Ideally you will seek links from a page that is:

    1) On topic (The page linking to your page is about the same main topic)
    2) Ranked well for the keyphrase you are after (In the top 1,000)
    3) Contains the keywords you wish to rank well for
    4) Has high PR (PR 4 or higher)

Link exchanges are not recommended except for sites in your niche that rank well for the terms you hope to rank well for.

I just checked your site in Site Explorer and found nothing. No indexed pages or backlinks. Maybe Yahoo is updating, I'm not sure.

At the present time relevancy does not matter regarding backlinks. Look at the footer in this URL. SEO links on a sewage site, that is priceless. The SEO site ranks 9 for a SEO related keyword with 34 million competiting pages. SEO and crap have nothing in common - well, maybe they do in this case

If you read the posts above, you would know that the tool he used that came up with 9.9M backlinks is flawed.

9 million back links for a two-week-old site is IMPOSSIBLE. That's really surprising if the site would have a 9M back links in two weeks time. lol!
