    What do "Client Areas" actually consist of?

    I'm currently in the process of learning PHP to expand my web development services, but I was wondering almost all professional web development agencies have their own "client areas". What do these login accounts actually consist of? And how are they structured? I want to construct my own client are using PHP and MySQL.

    Usually they are for billing and work management.
    (similar to a a client area for hosting)

    Take a look at the different views available in BaseCamp (www.basecamphq.com). It is widely used as a client area.
