Does IIS 5.1 allow multiple web sites On XP Pro?

Just getting started with IIS on Windows XP Pro. One thing I have a question about is why don't I have an option to 'create new website' when I right click on the Web Sites node? Am I only allowed to use Default Web Site? Also, I know it's not a rights issue because I'm logged in as administrator.

I'm looking at IIS on our server which has Windows Server 2003. On that machine I can create multiple web sites by right clicking on the Web Sites node? Is this just not an option with XP Pro?

Multiple sites were a server-only feature until Vista/IIS7. The logic is that IIS on XP Pro is for development and local apps (like media center). It is also limited to ten simultaneous connections, which can easily be hit with long-running AJAXy stuff.

Thanks for answering. That's what I was thinking, just wanted to be sure.

I'm new at this. You lost me on the Ajax thing. Are you talking about security issues running IIS with XP Pro?

No, not a security issue. Basically, 10 simultaneous requests in the pre-ajax era could easily be lots of visitors or tests running against an application. But with AJAX, it is pretty easy to hit that limit just testing stuff yourself.

Gotcha. So basically, hosting a website on XP is not a realistic option?

Yes, I believe you can have up to 10 connections at a time to your winXP pro IIS 5.1 server.
