    trouble with multiple language site (2 cols)

    Hey ,

    The site im working on offers all info in 17 different languages.

    I have a header --> 2 cols --> footer page layout.

    my nav is the left col and content the right col.

    My question is how can I have the left col grow/shrink to accommodate the different length links that may appear due to the languages offered and still work in ie6.

    e.g. in english the longest link might be Administration but in Russian that may grow to be 2x as wide.

    Any advise on how to manage this

    Thanks

    Hi,

    If you mean that the link becomes too wide for the column that it sits in then there's not much (as yet) that you can do about it for most browsers. In most cases the link will just protrude out of the column and overlap but shouldn't break anything else.

    IE would however try to stretch the columns and thus break the layout. However you can force IE to wrap unbroken text with the following.

    Code:
    #elementname {word-wrap:break-word}
    word-wrap is CSS3 but was originally a proprietary IE only style.

    Thanks for the reply Paul,

    As a work around i've gone for %widths + a max-width so the nav never looks ugly when some one with a high res is viewing the site.
