The first thing I did was check that your code validates with W3 standards. It doesnt.
Considering your saying on your site that you are wanting to keep your page on the cutting-edge of various internet technologies, having a validated site would be your best starting point.

(Click here for your validation results)

I can't put my finger on whether I like the world in the background or not, I think it may be too strong at the sides, my eye keeps on focussing on the background rather than the content.

I always find it hard to comment on a personal website as the site is personal to you. I think its an easy to navigate site but the font the text is in could be clearer or again it could be the background which is making it a little bit harder to read than a plan coloured background.

Great job on creating your own CMS for the site, keep up the good work.

It seems one of the great personal websites with easy navigation.

It looks simple and sincere so, for my personal opinion, search engines will like your website for sure.

    Nice and simple.
Nothing proffesional IMO, but I like it.
I have a small problem with the logo... and the whole globe theme throughout the website, seems a little too repetitive.

http://www.chriswiegman.us/portfolio/ I see the globe 4 times above the fold (in logo, in background and 2x in the screenshot of the homepage)

i would go ahead and make the white behind the text completely opaque. it's kind of hard to read.

    Great background, hard to read

    Hi

Just had a chance to take a look at the site. The background grabs you right away but there's was just too much text for me on the page and the font was difficult to read.

Also, I understand it's probably mostly intended for people you know but it would be nice for people that may not know you to put the information you have in the site description underneath your name in the header.

    - font can be better. Especially, I don't feel the need of two fonts there in homepage.
    - Spacing between the borders / images can be bit more.
    - From my view, the site looks pretty dull, you could use something to spice it up ?
    - Try chaning the background to bit lighter grey, ( f9f9f9 ? ) and then the font color to a dark grey, might look better.
    - A better font for the logo would be really nice.

Thanks all, this gives me a little to think about. The site as a whole is really meant to be a "professional" or business page. I meant it as a personal site and as a lab of sorts to test new stuff.

That said, I'm going to look at updating the background and some of the other visual components. Thanks for your help!

Good point. It validated when it was new, but I hadn't re-validated in a while. I've fixed the problems now...

I would change the opacity of the 'world bg image'...At the moment it is a bit too much.

And...Ad some padding to the pictures on (for example) your 'aviation' pages. The text is sticking to the images which makes it unpleasant to read.

Also I do not get the purpose of the website...Is it somekind of personal blog thingie? Or a presentation of you as a 'MySQL Guru'?

    Smile Mmhh...

It is a good thing you have changed the BG image!

But now I was startled when the music started boomin' in my headphones.

Most of the time I am behind my PC/Mac I have a headphone on my head with boomin' tunes. When some website suddenly decides that I have to hear their music this is mostly very irritating.

Provide the option of music, that's always nice of course!, but do not let it start automatically.

I did not like the color scheme AT ALL.

Also the music slows the page down......you may like it but others will not.

As said above the music option is good.

    Good luck.

Umm, you realize I've moved that URL for now and what you saw today was a myspace site, right?

I've reviewed this site elsewhere already.
