    Hi,

I'm not sure if this should go in here or in the e-commerce bit...

I want to have a bash at setting up a test site from which people can order fill in a form to order items and send their credit cards securely.

I have a script which does the form bit, and I know I have to use the forms within an SSL.
What I need to know is this, the SSL (I think) stops people actually logging in and grabbing the credit card number from the server. What is the best way to protect th number as it 'travels' from the server to the inbox of the retailer? Somekind of encryption key?

Any help, pointers, abuse for obtuse appreciated!

    Peter

If your server isn't sitting in your office or home, you definitely want to use an encryption for email. There's a pretty good tutorial on encryption at http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/...?tw=eg20000511

The two main encryption programs, if you'll be sending credit card info via email are at:
    GnuPG (www.gnupg.org)
    PGP (www.pgp.com)

Some e-commerce software does encryption/decryption, such as CartIt (cartit.com).

Also, not all third-party credit card processors are expensive. Verisign (www.verisign.com/payment/) has a setup for $19.95 a month for up to 1000 transactions.
