    Shared Intellectual Property

I am negotiating a contract with a programmer for a profit sharing deal and he is requesting that the source code will be shared intellectual property between us. Is this how it usually works or could I run into problems by sharing it?

    Hi,

IANAL, as a programmer I wanted the same, but my lawyer told me this concept doesn't exist, unless you are a company together of course.

The programmer writes it and can give you a non-exclusive, unlimited licence. Thats effectively the same as what you propose.

Ok, very simplified, but you can both do with it what you want, but not take it away from each other.

Lennon-McCartney, Rodgers-Hammerstein... both "shared" intellectual property. One wrote the music, the other they lyrics, but they BOTH own the songs they wrote together.

Some books have more than two writers.

There's no reason you can't share intellectual property.
