If you haven't already upgraded, you might want to wait until you check out the new management Dashboard just released yesterday (on WordPress.com that is...I know it was released earlier for download). It was for me, personally, what caused me to start looking for a new blogging platform altogether.
I'm spent over a year getting into the inner workings and have extolled its virtues to everyone. No longer. It is the biggest disappointment of the year so far for me.
Just thought you should be warned if it wasn't too late already to take a look at it...perhaps by signing up at WordPress.com for a free account and checking it out.

There are already new admin panel themes available and I'm sure more will be available soon. So in the long term, the admin panel issues shouldn't be a problem as long as your hosting your own version of WordPress. Although I personally don't see any problem with the new design.
as i said, the new admin panel is disaster. plus wp 2.5 give me some bugs with duplicate sef links, and other bugs. go to wp site and read forums - they're full with "help, not working ...!"
