    design logic

I am a asp/backend developer. Im trying to get into css, I know graphic design and html but css is my weakpoint, because back in the day we used to nest tables within tables and that was design.

Im working on <snip></snip> right now, and I currently have the header and menu done in css, even though you are viewing the html version.

Now for the rest of the content, should I use any tables at all, or should I use all DIV's? When is it and when isn't it ok to use tables?

    Hi,

There doesn't seem to be anything in that page that can't be done with css.

Don't think in terms of divs as divs are just dividers of content. Your content should be structured with the correct html that semantically describes the content it holds.Only use divs to logically divide sections or when there is no other suitable semantic elements.

The only times you will need to use a table is when you have tabular data or when you want a layout that needs equalising columns although most times a faux column effect can be done using a background image.

There are some things that tables can do easier than CSS such as gallery images and captions all vertically aligned and in those cases if a design change can't be made then its acceptable to use a table to create the design you need.

CSS can do most things you need these days

BTW I have removed your link as links to adult sites are not allowed (even though I know there was no content in there yet)

thanks for your help. If I want the site to be centered in the page like it is, I should use a table with 3 columns? Then use css in the center?

Also its not really adult content, there is pornography at all, just dating articles and things.

    Hi,

No you can center the whole thing in css quite easily. You just place it in wrapper of appropriate width and use margin:auto to center it. The columns can be floated inside the wrapper. Just remember to clear the floats when needed.

Here is an example of a very basic centred 3 column layout.

If you get stuck then you can always ask for help here
