The two guys who created that site many years ago do not appear to have kept it up to date with all the many changes that the W3C (official standards body and no relation to w3schools) has made to the standards since they created the w3schools site. There are many other better maintained sites on HTML which are not quite as popular since they didn't manage to get themselves quite such a misleading domain name.
http://webdesign.about.com is one of the many sites that provide a far more comprehensive and up to date pages on HTML, XHTML and CSS than w3schools does.Stephen J Chapman

I agree with Stephen - I think many people believe that W3schools are related to the W3C and they do nothing to dissuade that impression (well they wouldnt' would they!).
Whilst most of their pages are ok, there's a lot better out there (and more useful).
