hide frame in a frameset

hi,

<frameset rows="25%,*" frameborder="NO" border="0">
<frameset cols="79%,*" frameborder="NO" border="0" id="srcfrset">
<frame src="asar.pl" name="topFrame" align="center">
<frame src="xxx.php"; ?>" name="searchFrame">
</frameset>
<frameset cols="79%,*" frameborder="NO" border="0">
<frame src="url" name="leftFrame" >
<frame src="url" name="mainFrame" >
</frameset>
</frameset>

now on certain event i want to hide the upper frameset i.e searchFrame how can i do this when i do top.searchFrame.cols="0.*" nothing happen as alerting top.searchFrame.cols returns undefined.

it seems to be an easy fix but i have not yet worked so much with frames kindly help me here.

Regards
