I know nothing about Canadian tax law, but I have a hard time believing just buying a product or service from across the border is considered "activity" for that purpose. Renting a server from SoftLayer is no different than subscribing to the New York Times online newspaper.

It's best to consult with an accountant... I've seen both answers, from reliable source:
sale take place on the server - in this case you have US activity
sale take place where the company who uses the server is registered - in this case you dont.
