I'm sure this is a common issue among website developers: as time passes, the image directory gets cluttered with old images that are not used anymore. Free disk space on the server gets rarer and I the minute you realize this you have the infrastructure guys on your neck.
I'd like to know if you guys know of an application that checks asp, xhtml, css and so forth for the referenced images and compares it to the image directory.
What you're looking for is software that does "orphan analysis". There are a few options, paid and free. Here are two I've used: Orfind ($40) or Xenu (free).
