How can the opener tell when the child is done loading?

How can the opener tell when the child is done loading?

I thought this was going to be easy, but I am obviously missing some key piece of JavaScript knowledge (admittedly, probably something really stupid on my part).

I open a second window, then I set the focus back to the opener. I want to tell the user when the second window is available for use (see the second window’s onLoad event?).

    Ideas?

Just do something like this in the new window onload="opener.windowReady()" which'll run windowReady() when it finishes loading.

HA! Perfect! The child just calls a function on the parent when it is done loading.

I was trying to work it for the parent side. I tried every variation I could think of, most of which made no sence, but I tried them anyway just to make sure -- and I was right - they didn't work.

    Thanks!
