Perhaps imprudently, I've tried to avoid using graphics when the simple shapes I want are available in Unicode. Thus, I have this in my JavaScipt:

Code:
    // See http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U25A0.pdf
    var leftPointer = '\u25c0';
    var rightPointer = '\u25b6';
    var upPointer = '\u25b2';
    var downPointer = '\u25bc';
which I then use like:

Code:
    var b1 = document.createElement('input');
    b1.type = 'button';
    b1.value = leftPointer;
And this works great in FF and Opera but the character is missing in IE 7 (at least). I thought perhaps I just needed to specify the right character set or something but I haven't been able to make it work. Any clues appreciated. Thanks.
