Should I use a starter kit or create my own app?

I working on a site for a customer. They need to be able manage the content. I'm thinking about using a starter kit or creating one myself.

Which would be a better way to go?

If you recommend using a starter kit, which one would you recommend?

It depends what functionality needs your customer, most of the starter kits are heavy applications. Anyway you could use some of the source code, but to develop your custom application.

It also depends on your level of experience. If you with a StarterKit, can you confidently give accurate estimates for rolling the application in place. How about modifying it at a later date? If your fairly confident you can edit an existing code base safely and quickly, then go for it.

I'm a senior .net dev, and I've been trying to roll one of those (tried both club starter kit and umbraco), and so far it's been a huge hassle. I'm about to just write my own, but I've heard other people have had very little trouble.
