Ok, a simple question, and I would prefer a simple list. It's a little research for an article I'm writing.
Why do you think PHP is better than ASP?
I'm not really looking for a discussion, just a simple list like so:
Faster
Cooler
Better name
![]()

php
faster, more features, more support, free (no hidden costs), and of course mysql integration.
definetly the wise choice.
http://redgoals.com ... my site ... nuff said
- faster
- syntactically close to C (which is a good thing)
- Open-Source
- great community
- simple to use (subjective though)
- support for almost everything from databases to XML to LDAP to WDDX... you name it
- lots of built-in functions
- asp? isn't that a kind of snake?
that's all i can think of for now...
All mentioned before +
1. Working on Linux/Unix and Win (You know what I mean)
2. Hate MS software.

PHP doesn't have a nightmarish object model to wade through for doing simple things like reading from a text file
the PHP manual is a big positive

some additions:
- suitable for Rapid Application Development
- a holy trinity when used on Linux and Apache (compared with the unholy trinity of WinNT, IIS and ASP... how much does that cost already?)
- MSDN scares the asp out of me
