The types of dialog windows you can open are window.alert() , window.confirm() and window.prompt()

That exists in JScript but not in JavaScript and so IE is the only browser that understands it. With JavaScript you are limited to alert, confirm, and prompt unless you build your own in the web page modal dialog.

See http://javascript.about.com/library/blmodald1.htm where I have the code for an in page alert dialog that can be easily modified to whatever content you want your modal in page dialog to contain.
