Ruby listening on port 3000 even though its running as cgi ... does that make sense?

I'm running Ruby on Rails on a shared host that doesn't actually support it. And their abuse team has been in contact with me, claiming that Ruby (the actual ruby executable that I installed ... is listening on port 3000).

I am running Ruby on Rails as cgi and am not running webrick or mongrel or anything like that ... is this possible or are they just screwing with me? It took a bit of work to set up, and don't want to remove it if I don't have to.

Do you have shell access at all? If so, netstat -ln will show you what's listening on certain ports and can see if Ruby is indeed doing that.

    Thanks chris_fuel
its a shared hosting environment so I get a permission denied error on
    /proc/net/tcp

But I had them check and it seems they're full of crap ... they were just trying to bully me. Nothing seem to actually be listening on port 3000 at the moment.
