    Question Outlook Alternative

    Hi guys,

Can I get some feedback on alternatives to MS Outlook / Calender?
I would consider thunderbird but it doesnt have a good calendar plugin that i know of.

I run a home based web design company and need to keep track of appointments and obviously need a robust email client.

Have trialled Office 2007 small business but stuffed if I want to fork out $700 for a copy!

Thunderbird has Sunbird now but I don't know what version it's at or how well it works overall. It works pretty good and will get better but if there are any problems, I don't know.

I've just started using Outlook and it looks really handy for calenders, appointments and even e-mail. I always stayed away from it as it was part of Office, didn't think it was that great. Been using Outllok Express (Now called Windows Mail on Vista) but doesn't seem very good in comparison to Outlook, what's Thuderbird like to use?

I have been using MS Outlook for a hundred years. It is very good. It is very expensive. It is very 'heavy'
Google (with GoogleApps) is The Next Big Thing. The hype is well deserved.
It provides everything a business (small, medium, semi-large) needs and is completely portable.
Although I am the world's biggets cynic and opposed to 'following fads'*, I am starting to really enjoy the Google Kool-Aid.

I tried thunderbird, and am getting on well with it. It's a good substitute for Outlook

What's the deal with GoogleApps I haven't even heard of that recently? I am becoming more and more tempted to switch over from using Windows Mail, as it takes ages to load and isn't exactly fulll of features. But I do want to be able to export all my e-mails (not contacts, don't use them) for use in another e-mail client thugh.

Google Calender is very nice, I miss groups and contacts though, way way better in Outlook.

I also like the way I could switch contacts between my HTC mobile and Outlook - this kind of features should be included in Google aswell (or is this possible allready, but I have only missed how?)

Well to me it seems like switching to Outlook is a good idea, it has far more features built into it, it probably won't freeze up everytime it loads up for a good minute (recurring problem with Outlook Express and Windows Mail) and above all I can minimize it and keep it in the background. Anyone else got any suggestions/ideas?

The only reason I use Google instead of Outlook (which is best in my opinion) is because you can access it anywhere and on any PC.

    Outlook Express is worthless though...

I have been using Thunderbird for a few years now, and never been disappointed. Everybody should try and use all the free software and stay away from the paid stuff.
