    Exclamation JavaScript and XP

    I currently use various Javascript applets. How will Microsoft's decision to NOT ship Java VM in Windows XP and future versions effect users of these operating systems who visit sites that use Javascript? If Javascript will no longer be supported by default, is there a way to detect a lack of support and automatically update a client with the necessary components?

    Its Java not Javascript that is not supported by XP on clean installs, so scripts will still run fine (as long as the client has it enabled but that's the same as ever) its java applets that may have trouble. Another point to consider is that if the system was upgraded to XP from any other MS OS that had Java installed it will still be there.

    Sometimes you wonder if it's better that the chickens DON'T understand what the Axe is for? eh?

    Script != Applet

    Javascript doesn't have anything to do with Java, except for the name, really.

    Client-side scripts written in ECMAscript (the Javascript standard), Javascript or Jscript(the ms version) will still work fine in XP.

    Unfortuantely i'll have to disagree with you on that one.

    Javascript DOES have something to do with Java.

    But that doesn't actually MAKE it Java!
