    Sitemap for forums?

    Just wanted to check in with you folks and see what you recommend with regard to sitemaps (sitemap.xml) when it comes to forums?

    I've generated a few sitemaps - and when it comes to indexing the forums part of the site - whew, nearly 800 links just for 100 posts and 10 members.

    Should I simply omit the indexing of the forums - or when all is said and done, simply keep the /forums part of the sitemap and delete the rest of /forums/*

    Thanks in advance.

    Most forum software has a built in generator. Which are you using?
    Are you getting any session ids?

    sitemap

    Although great for users, cross-referencing all the posts does add up to a hefty sitemap. IMHO there is no need to tell the bots they can find a post under eg.
    "just plain" post
    Forum -> same post
    Thread -> same post
    Archive -> same post
    Keyword search -> same post
    etc.
    As long as the content of a post can be found once, it seems to me that should be good enough for the search bots.

    I am running a forum using SMF. Based on my experience, there is no need for sitemap. Google spider has no problem indexing my forum site.

    Thanks guys - I use Invision Power Board and frequently see both Google and Yahoo "hanging out". Guess I just needed some input from other forum owners, etc. I'll just use the sitemap for the primary "non forum" site, etc.

    Again, thanks!
