    Forum Software

    Hey i'm looking to ad a forum to my site BuyIT

    I'm really just looking for something thats simple to deploy and administer. Also it needs to be free.

    phpBB seems like the most popular option behind the commercial vBulliten.

    But, I would really like something that I can just drop into my existing template. When I installed phpBB it makes itself a whole new page, I would have to customize the phpBB forum to match my site forum.

    Are there any forums where I can just drop the code into my template?

    Thanks for the help

    Not that I am aware of. All you need to do though is to find the template which controls the header and footer of the forum and put your own header and footer in there. It's usually not too difficult. I'm not sure what the file used for phpBB is though.

    I did a custom integration like this for LauraDC recently ... http://www.godaycare.com/childcareforum/

    thanks for the reply. When I replaced the content of the header and footer files with my own template header and footer it made no difference at all to the forum.

    Maybe I was getting something wrong...

    Adding a forums is a lot harder than I thought though :/

    Yeah, integrating these things is a pain. If you placed your own header and footer files into the template then they should appear though. Perhaps if you post the code and what files they came from someone will be able to help with it.

    ok, thanks. Using phpBB3, I replaced "overall_header.html" and "overall_footer.html" with my own header and footer.

    overall_header:
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    <head>

    	<meta name="author" content="Jack />

    	<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />

    	<link rel="stylesheet" href="/findit/includes/style.css" type="text/css" />

    	<title>FindIT - We bring the products to you</title>

    </head>

    <body>
    	<!--HEADER AREA-->

    	<div id="page" align="center">

    		<div id="toppage" align="center">

    		<div id="header" align="center">

    			<div id="pagetitle">
    				<div id="logo">
    					<a href="index.php">
    					<img src="/findit/images/logo".$picExt.""/>
    					</a>
    				</div>

    				<div id="title" class="titletext">
    					...we bring the products to you
    				</div>

    			</div>

    		</div>
    	<!--END HEADER AREA-->

    		<div id="content">

    			<div id="contenttext">

    				<div class="bodytext" style="padding:12px;" align="justify">
    				<!--====================================-->
    				<!--============Body Text===============-->
    overall_footer:
    Code:
    				<!--==========End Body Text=============-->
    				<!--====================================-->

    			</div>
    		</div>

    		<div id="footer" class="smallgraytext" align="center">

    			<!--footer-->

    		</div>

    	</div>

    	<!--GOOGLE ANALYTICS-->

    	<!--END GOOGLE ANALYTICS-->

    </body>

    </html>
    here is the url of the forum with these changes. You can see it is still the default look, which baffles me.

    Thanks for the help
