How much should I charge for ads?
A client wants to advertise on my site.
What should I charge? If I were to charge monthly what would be fair?
Per CPM? Any ideas.

Per cpm is reasonable, you have to be able to provide client with stats and be able to track specifically how many times the ad was displayed. It also depends how big is it, where it is and if it's a banner or text ad.
For comparison purpose, say you're a blogger discussing stamp collecting, you'd charge a stamp collecting service more than a stationary company or courier service or just a restaurant that happens to be in the same town as you are.
Investigate the competition and market rate specifically for your kind of website and the client type of business and base your rate accordingly.
There's no possible way we can give you a rate range, we don't know your field, you market, nor your client type of business.

Sorry, but at SitePoint we cannot discuss pricing.
