No Sound after Reformat

Lads & Ladies,

My PC has had uncurable trojans etc for about a year and i finally got around to doing a reformat. Everything worked out fine apart from the fact i now have no sound!

The thing is, my PC isnt detecting my sound card so im not sure which drivers to get. After having a look online about my PC model (Packard Bell iMedia M848) i got a rough idea and downloaded some but they had no effect whatsoever. (Under sound components in System Information it says i have the Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device but im sure that's not correct)

Has anyone else had this problem or know how to recover the sound? i've searched everwhere through tons of forums but cant find anything that works. Any help would be much appreciated.

the thing is im not sure what my device is so dont know which drivers to install i thought i was pretty sure by memory, but towards the end of the installation my pc automatically reboots then says it has recovered from a fatal error or something of the like

answering to this question it is obvious that this is not a sound card. I think you are trying modem

Try to check your sound if it's working properly then update driver.

Install the driver, try it under different conditions. My soundcard was not working at firefox I was not able to listen flash video sounds but working on IE. I have found some solution and fix the problem.

Simply unplug the sound card and try to read on soud card about its company.. then use google to find that company and its product range... I hope it would help

I suggest, what shoaaib just suggested. Furthermore, you may alternatively plug it out, start your PC, shut it down. Then Plug it back in and start again. Hopefully that will cause your Windows to detect the device successfully.

You may have to manually open up your PC to see which sound card you have installed and research.

always have back up of our drivers.
if not, you'll have hard time working for your sound to come back again.
if ever, always update your drivers hmm, maybe once every 4months...

if your motherboard has an onboard soundcard, try unpluging your external and boot using mb sound, if that works try pluging in the external sound card again, windows might just need a kick up the proverbial ****.

Failing that it might be a case of re-formatting. First time i installed vista network didnt work, second time network = ok but no sound.

One tip is to unplug everything from the pc before installing windows. the only things that should be pluged in are Power, monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers. i had a card reader cause me all sorts of problems when trying to install windows

If you have on board sound card, go to motherboard manufacture website & download correct drivers. (USE tool named CPUID for identify your motherboard model) or you can use motherboard CD.

- click Start button on left-bottom of your desktop screeen
- click Run type dxdiag click Yes
- see System Manufacturer and System Model will tell you motherboard's infomation
- go to your motherboard's manufacturer's website and download sound drivers that support your motherboard's model

I have tried a few programs that find drivers automatically and have mixed results, for some pieces of hardware they find the software really easily, however for others it will struggle to find anything.

http://www.download.com/AIDA32/3000-...10129233.html: Aida 32, brilliant bit of kit for identifying components. Most manufactures will have the appropriate drivers for your sound card and you should be able to download them.

I take it you dont have a disaster recovery disk handy?!
I have had this a couple of times and it really does come down to having the right drivers.

Hi, Any resolve to this? If it looks like your sound card is not being detected whatsoever, take a look into the bios and see if the sound device is enabled on boot. Could be that it got turned off somewhere along the road.

Also, Sjvb, mentioned getting more info about your make and model by running a dxdiag. It is a good tool to find out specific info about your devices. If you can find out exactly the make/model it will give you a better lead to where to get the correct driver for your sound card.

Reinstall Sound Driver in your PC ...

It is too hard to install a sound driver that you really don't have an idea of the hardware itself (sound card brand or model). Another option is to replace the sound card with another one having its exact driver for it.

If its built-in then probably you can check your motherboard manufacturer and see if they have the driver - more likely they have it online for download. If its a sound card, you have to manually open your PC, get the name and model number of your sound card and then download the driver online.
