I use them and they are great. The analytic package does a good job of telling you the amount and source of traffic. The demographic analysis is only so-so.

I would recimend using the package.

    It's a good tool and it's free.

Also checkout the Google Webmaster Help Center and Google's Webmaster Central Blog

The question wasn't about analytics, but about Webmaster Tools

GWT is really a beautiful thing. The most useful part (IMHO) is crawling problems. If Googlebot couldn't crawl to some URLs, probably humans won't either.

Position by keywords, top search queries - all that is useful, too.

And after I tweaked that with/without www. setting, the number of external links to my site increased by 5% - instantly.

So I think if a search engine makes a tool that shows how your site's working with that search engine, it just can't be unuseful.

GWT is straight from source, it doesn't get any better than that.

The only thing that comes close is Matt Cutts blog and he is purposely vague most of the time. At least GWT will tell you exactly what problems Google is having indexing your site.

I had a client recently who didn't have any pages of his site indexed and GWT told me that the bot visit to his index page was timing out. That was all I needed to know to find the problem (which turned out to be an htaccess file hack redirecting the bots away from the site).

How nice In our discussions I have learned an awful lot and I get more 'closure' on this forum than any I've ever posted on. Things really get thrashed out.

I notice in your profile that you play roller hockey. Until I had to stop due to CFS I played Ice hockey, absolutely mad about it. I tried roller hockey but there were a few things I didn't like about it, most of all was the lack of contact which robbed me as a Dman of my most useful defensive tool, plus I just like hitting people (I'm not a goon, it's just fun and makes you keep your head up ), falling over hurt a LOT more cos you don't slide, and I realised just how much I rely on my skating on the ice, it's a lot harder to skate on roller blades I think cos you can't stop as easily or turn as hard. My stick handling wasn't really good enough for roller hockey. I can shoot, hit and skate, the fancy stuff is for the roller hockey boys.

Check out this vid , my first reaction was that I'd love to catch this guy with his head down but after watching further I was tripping over my bottom lip at his stick handling skills - http://www.collegehumor.com/video:112852

I enjoy playing ice hockey but rarely play it due to getting ice time being a PITA and the cost of it being way to high to do on a consistent basis.

The leagues I have played in don't officially allow checking but if both teams keep it clean, and don't whine about it, the refs let us get away with quite a bit of rough play which is fun. For me that only applies to when I'm not in goal.

I am very pleased with Google Webmaster Tools, especially the section to check the external and internal links. It is a wonderful tool.

Google Webmasters tools are great for troubleshooting problems with your site. It is very straightforward. The part that allows you to see what the Googlebot sees is worth it alone.

I've used these tools to fix some problems with my own site and Google.

You play in goal sometimes? lol, goalies are mad You wouldn't catch me letting people shoot pucks at me for 60 minutes, blocking the odd shot is one thing but otherwise I prefer to avoid contact with the puck.....

I miss ice hockey like mad, if I ever get over the CFS I'll be back like a shot, no pun intended. Yeah the rough stuff is fun, I think you have to play to get that.

Did you watch that vid? Is that insane skills or what.

There is definitely something wrong with me so being a goalie comes naturally to me. I've even thrown my head in front of the puck to make sure it stays out of the net.

I saw that vid. I almost believe there was a magnet in the puck and the stick. There had to be....

GWT is great. I maintain a daily update of GWT details of all my websites. Helps you in tracking when Google has last updated themselves of your site's details.

I use GWT as well. Even though it's just for one search engine it is one of the major ones. One of the features I've had to use recently was to remove a dead link. Has anyone had to use this tool before. Did it end up working out for you?
