Question Best way to advertise a Web Based Proxy?

I've always bought a paid listing from Proxy.org, but I'm getting bored of that place now, where would you say I should advertise from now on?

I want to market my proxy a lot so I'm interested in anything what's going to get users coming back!

I would start by going to some of the 'underground' type of forums and even the conspiracy theory places. So some direct ads, with landing pages that clearly spell out why that specific group (the ones reading the forum) would benfit from a proxy service.

Advertise where proxy users are: sites that attract students and office employees.

Which would say to me; Facebook. This really is a service that students will want because so many schools block the students viewing certain sites.

All I can say is, where in the hell were you when I was a school student. =]

As far as advice goes, I would definitely say some form of notification to students would be a great idea. Perhaps promotion on Facebook or MySpace would be a good idea. Hell, even by telling a few students at school the word will usually spread well and students will flock to your website to get their online games fixes. It's one of those things that I reckon will kick off once a few people know about you.

Something else to think about, how about advertising on the sites that people may wish to view on your proxy. If you advertise that users can visit MySpace/Facebook using your site then you're pretty much in with the students. A simple message like "Wanna view your friends MySpace/Facebook accounts but are blocked on your computer? Surf the web free from blocks with MySuperAmazingProxyWebsite!" would get the idea across straight away.
