Has anyone upgraded their WordPress version?

I'm wondering because I know that I need to upgrade, because the current version closes a security gap.

Also how can you tell what version you're on in the first place?

Yes, I've upgraded. You can tell what version you are running by logging into your admin panel and in the footer it will tell you. If your version is out of date, it will tell you that you need to upgrade.

It only tells you after you have upgraded to 2.1 or better, but you can see the version you are running in your footer.

I upgraded three blogs just last week and am hoping they don't find any further security leaks at least for another month. *sigh*

Go to http://techie-buzz.com/wordpress-plu...de-plugin.html and get the WordPress plugin that allows you to automatically upgrade your WordPress to the latest version without having to do any file transfers yourself (apart from copying the backup files that it makes for you).

Terrible idea, as it will overwrite the current upload.

Installing from Fantastico means that you then have to wait for the staff at Fantastico to offer the upgraded version rather than being able to upgrade when you want.

I upgraded from 2.3.0 to 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 using the automatic upgrade plugin without any difficulties whatsoever. The plugin even gets the upgrade from WordPress for you.

I'm going to have to check that theme out. I use my own, but I like looking at others.

And I didn't realize some people are still on 2.2. I thought they said those versions have massive security holes?

I am very lazy when it comes to upgrades. I'd rather backup than mess the script .. had some very unpleasant "suprises" with vbulletin that just messed my skin and plugins after an upgrade and now I just keep my scripts not upgraded for a while. Till I have the time to play with upgrades and fixing the issues.

Not upgrading when there are security patches released is the worst possible thing you can do as it can make the entire server your site is hosted on vulnerable to attack. The last two WordPress updates have been security patches.
