Any online guides on improving your Grammar?

I was just making my point. It is understood that "u r" means "you are".

I was running out of time while i was posting that reply.

Is that OK?

Although Rudy's reply may have seemed terse to you, please understand that the main focus of SitePoint Forums is to help working professionals. Although abbreviations like "u r" are acceptable in text messaging and e-mailing your friends, in the business world they really have no place.

Also consider that those who don't understand English as well as you do may have a difficult time figuring out your abbreviations. This is especially true in this forum about Content and this thread about proper grammar.

Always learn ho to deal on verb agreement. And Practice yourself using the 8 parts of speech in order to create quality writing content.

An old tip that I learned which still works is to keep the sentences "KISS". Keep It Short & Simple.

Short sentences are easy to judge for grammar correctness. Long sentences tend to result in more grammatical blunders. I am still learning myself. The more I write, the more I see myself improving.

Even the best writers use proof readers. it's really hard to detect your own grammar mistakes.

Read as much as you can. This will improve your writing style, as well as grammar. You must know the basic grammar rule for making your writing grammatical error free. Even beginners' grammar book is enough for that. Good luck

I disagree with the rules of no passive sentences and short sentences only. Good writing mixes things up. If your sentences are all similar, your writing will start to put people to sleep. (I'm talking about article-writing here, not about writing short pieces of ad copy.) Limit the amount of passive and long sentences, but use them when they seem appropriate. Ask someone to check your grammar if you don't feel confident.

I agree that you should read as much as you can and get people to read your work and give you feedback.

You need to read as well as write. You need to read to get an idea of what good writing is. The more you read, the more you will absorb the styles and techniques of good authors and integrate them into your own style.

It's becoming more and more noticeable that the more I write the more my grammatical faults seem to show up. Although I tend to write fairly well when dealing with less serious articles I've started to take up some more serious work involving money. Now it's time for me to finally brush up on my grammar and learn to write without the glaring errors I get when I write now.

Does anyone have any good online resources or techniques on how to notice grammatical errors, and how I can do away with them? A lot of the writing I may need to do in the future is very expressive and I'll need to be able to show exactly what's in my head through my writing; something I find extremely difficult to do now.

Since you're doing it for money, then I sincerely advice not to stress it.

My only rule was to read it to myself and see if it sounds right. If it does, then it's probably grammatically correct. You can also use word's spell and grammar check.

Although in microsoft word program people can check their spelling and grammar but online spelling and grammar checker with better ability is needed everytime. So, i hope webmasters will improve or make an online spelling and grammar checker with the best ability.

For a "quick & dirty" grammar lesson, do a search for "Celestial Grammar".

However "dirty", in this case, means "naughty". Celestial Grammar and Advanced Celestial Grammar use examples from pornographic stories to demonstrate proper use of English Grammar. The articles cover all the basics and the examples make it much easier (and more fun) to remember.

IMO, the mothod u 've provide is a good way to improve one's spoken language
no bragging , i've learned linguistics a little so i should tell there are so much differences b/w the spoken and written lg --grammer, vocabulary and etc

and one thing more i could suggest --if you are afraid of making grammer mistakes
when u finishing your writing , don't hesitate to post it
put it aside for a few hours or even one or two days
the read it again , u will found many mistakesif there is any by youself
this what we usually told to do by our creative writing teachers back to the college days
