    Is JS popup supposed to open window in new tab in tabbed IE browser?

    Hello;

    I have got a script that makes popup windows in the FireFox browser and older versions of the IE browser.

    However, I was at the public library today. I tested my web site using one of their computers. The window opened in a new tab on the computer at the public library.

    What I am wondering is do JavaScript windows that are supposed to popup in new windows open in new tabs on the newer versions of the Windows OS?

    Here is the code from my web site:

    PHP Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function
    MM_openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features) {

    PictureWindow window.open(theURL,winName,features);

    PictureWindow.focus()
    }
    //-->
    </script>
    <body>

    <a href="#" onClick="MM_openBrWindow('PaginatePictures.php?id=736','PictureWindow','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=550,height=525,left=50,top=10'); return false">

    </body>
    Here's a popup window on the web site that I'm working on.

    Thanks.

    That might be the result of IE's built in popup blocker, or just the way it reacts to the javascript. I don't use Ie enough to be sure.

    You might want to look at Lightbox if you want a cross browser solution.

    As with Firefox, you can configure IE 7 to open pop-up windows in new tabs. Look at Internet Options > General > Tabs > Settings > "When a pop-up is encountered..."

    The behaviour will undoubtedly vary from visitor to visitor, and you can't control their preferences.

    bluedreamer, TheAnarchist,

    Thanks for responding to my problem.

    I have got the Netscape 8.1 browser on my computer. It also opens the popup window in a new tab in the same browser window.

    Well it all depends 0on whether you configure your browser to open new pages in a new window, new tab or the same tab. It is entirely under the browser owner's control.
