Sales letter.....hmmm.....you are right. That might mean the difference between someone clicking or not. I will try that.

I don't worry about it anymore. Things are improving and I have no time to look at that and cry like I used to

There ya go, you made your own home page more relevant for your own URL than the sites that were ranking higher than you previously.

I dont mean like an actual "sales letter". I mean write it to make someone click on your website. Also make sure to put the keyword you sra targeting in the description because google bolds the keyword

Yes, agreed. It's great to read the thread over one last time once the problem has been solved. Gives you a different perspective on things.

I wonder though...if you continue to talk in the forums...and lets say, you start to get heavy involved in conversations and youve got like 1000 posts on sitepoint....i wonder if your site will be pushed back down to 2...i dont know...just a thought. I believe fetchblog.com is now my site on google search.

Only if those 1000 posts were on the same page, which is impossible.

Her home page is now more relevant than the sitepoint threads for her URL and is probably given extra credit that sitepoint can't match because it's actually her URL.

That was my original thought. Perhaps google saw all the posts by me as spamming. Things fixed themselves as many on here had said.

Not only were you not spamming, but I also highly doubt that Google considered you to be doing so either.

In fact, congrats to the staff at SP for doing such an excellent job. Any ideas?
u will even see PR 0 pages in no 1 position while you search in google.
google show up new content higher in results for some time.

It wouldn't hurt you otherwise anyone could hurt their competition by doing the same thing. Google just saw the thread with your posts on here as being more relevant to your domain name than your own home page.

Not being funny but I thought you got that and that's why you added your business name to your homepage a few times? Do you understand why you now rank higher than the sitepoint thread for your domain name?

I'm not sure what helped, to be frank. There were changes both on my end and those beyong my control. I can't conclude that placing my domain name in the title had pushed me to the top - just as I can't disregard it either. I'm sure it's the little things that contribute to the whole picture.

I can't say for sure without doing proper analysis but I think that adding your business name to your homepage a few times, in the right places, made your home page more relevant than the sitepoint thread.

Prior to that, your homepage only mentioned your business name twice as I recall and not at all in the page title or any headings etc. It simply wasn't as relevant as the thread, despite it being your URL.

True, but I made other changes as well, including gaining some backlinks with godaycare in them. I'm sure adding the keyword helped too. As you recall I was found on the second page, so SP was not the only site that had pushed mine down the list.

Yes, but all the other sites were more relevant too, also accidentally. By making your page more relevant, you top the SERP.

Now, if I could only figure out how to get ranked decently on Yahoo and MSN I'd be very happy. It seems to me that those two are looking for something different then google. I rank very well on google, yet nowhere to be seen on MSN and Yahoo. Any pointers?

Yahoo and MSN are more interested on your onpage optimization.

Congrats by the way on getting the ranking you want on Google Getting there is one thing, keeping it is another story.

Hehe....tell me about it. google changes their algos all the time. The best is to not be so dependant on the SEs. I only get about 30% of my traffic through the search engines. Alot are direct hits, which really surprises me considering the site is only a month and a half old. I'd be expecting that to be next to nothing.

    Thanks

I don't know if I would say "interested" as I would say "limited to" as using off page factors is incredibly complex and that's where Google's huge head start comes into play. Yahoo is way ahead of MSN in using off page factors to rank pages. MSN is seemingly in the dark ages in that area.
