    Dear All,

This period, I tried most of ways to get backlinks to my site., and it ranks from before 100,before 80,before 50,before 30...and rank improvement follows my backlinks. So is this true, more backlins, higher rank on google?

I post several thread about this topice. What I do just want to understand the truth of it.

yes backlinks will increase your PR.

PR is basically googles interpretation of how important your website is. The more people that link to you the more important google understands your website to be.

Actually, its the quality of the backlinks. If you have a water garden site, than 100 links from other water garden sites would give you a better ranking than 200 links from arcade websites.

It also matters how well google trusts the websites you are getting links from. A link from wikipedia will give you more weight than a link an arcade website.

That is why spammers need a lot of links to rank, because they get crappy backlinks.

But you are right, the more backlinks, the better. But remeber there are a lot of factors with this.

In general, if you have more backlinks, it is better. Even if it is from different sources that are not related to your niche.

Have a good mix, that can be good.

It is best to have strong and related to your site backlinks, just as Waraas said. Getting 500 backlinks from poor sites won't help you much. However getting 50 backlinks from good PR3-5 sites, with a good anchor text will boost your a lot!

If the pages that link to yours are related to your pages then yes. Otherwise this isn't as good as you make it out to be.

I have seen a real estate site ranks very high when my SEO friend got some PR6/7 links from software sites.

But it was before Google started its war on paid links.

You might just be correct about it at this time.

You shouldn't even bother spamming back links from unrelated sources.

Back linking from related content sites is the way to go to boost your website ranking.

You need backlinks from related sites that have pr also. Links from sites not ranked or not listed will not help unless they get some pr also.

I would change that to "more quality backlinks equals higher rankings."

There are lots of dimensions to a link. You want a lot of quality back links, from a lot of varied sources. I like to do Blogs, Forums, Directories, and Articles submissions. Its not to hard to build several hundreds links every couple months. You don't want to build too many too quickly as you'll have to keep up with your higher link acquisition. There is just a tiny bit of it, cheers.

PageRank is only about links. Period. A page's rank has lots of factors.

There's no such thing a variety of sources. Whether the link is on a blog or forum or whatever is irrelevant. Each page is judged by its merit. Not its format.

The Larry Page Rank that a web page has is dependent on the number of backlinks, the Page Rank of the web pages providing the backlinks, and the number of other links on those pages. Relevance of those links doesn't come into that calculation. The calculated PR is on a logarithmic scale running from 0 to 10. About every six months or so Google convert the larry Page Rank for each web page to the nearest integer and make it available for people to access.

This rank is only one extremely minor aspect of what Google take into account in how they rank pages in the search engine results. Factors such as the content of the page and the relevance of the backlinks to that content play a far more important role.

It's better to have 10 high-quality, authoritative, relevant links, than 10,000 low-quality, random links.

With that said, the more links you have the higher you may rank - as stated previously, but that doesn't mean you should be focusing on obtaining multiple links. What I've come to learn from experience is that one really great link could boost rankings far greater than 500 regular links.

    Obviously, that is subjective.

But if you look at the competitive terms authority, aged websites rank on the top ten. It's not like keyword-keyword.subdomain.keyword/keyword.php is rankling top ten.
