Detect connected camera and take picture

    Hi all,
I dont know if this is the right forum to post this but I am guessing javascript is pretty close. I am building a web application that a part of it will create ID cards. I am wondering if there is a way though JavaScript (or maybe flash) to detect if there is a connected camera and then take the picture by previewing it on the actual web application and then upload it to a DB using php. Does anyone know of anything like that? I have searched the forums but did not find anything similar.

    thank you

Javascript cannot access a webcam directly. It can access an image the webcam provides via some other software and refresh it every so often, but this still relies on this other software refreshing the image at a similar rate, or upon request.

Flash may well be able to achieve what you're after and I think it is probably a much better bet than trying to go via a javascript route.
