Huh, good luck, I've tried to get quite a few good quality sites listed on DMOZ without success so far.

DMOZ backlinks are very high quality because Google knows that DMOZ sites are assessed by a real person.

Having said that, DMOZ is rife with corruption and pettyness.
It's 530 people, but do you really get it?

I've got a few sites that I've worked on listed but it can take a while for them to get approved. The advice that's been given in the past is just to submit your site and then forget about it as there's nothing else you can really do other than to continue building a successful site and I think that advice is still relevant.

A Dmoz link is nice but it isn't important at all. Submit it and forget it and continue to promote your site. If their is a relative active editor you'll get in eventually.

Dmoz links are over-hyped because they used to carry more weight with Google and even then that was over-hyped because Google uses to use their RDF dumps to power their directory which was linked to on their homepage.

I don't trust DMOZ or Shoemoney ever since the scandal with the 'ransom'.

    linkbait

'You should assume everything written on this blog is a lie. You should assume I have motivation for linking to everything on this page and will benefit from it somehow. .... You should question everything. You should come up with your own thoughts and opinions and not trust some stupid blogger.'

There are a lot of other SEO related activities you can practice ot improve your ranking, plus you can submit to other directories,

Dmoz has the highest level of prestige, but there are several others, at a slightly lower level, plus 1 , dir.yahoo.com which is probably the equal of dmoz

I think being a new site is not the case, give a good impression to the DMOZ editor, I belive they don't look age of the site. If the appearance and the content are satisfactory, they add (one of my site is added only in 3 days and it was only 3 weeks old). In about 6 (maybe less or more) months period, your site will appear in google directory too if it it is listed in DMOZ.

It isn't all that important now, there was a time when getting a link in dmoz could have very good effect on your site, some dmoz categories even used to rank high in google SERPs thereby sending direct traffic to listed websites, but now it seems all downhill for dmoz.

If you really want to list your site on DMOZ - go to getafreelancer.com and find corrupt DMOZ editors selling DMOZ listings

On the other hand - you can always beat all your competitors listed on DMOZ - if you have proper On-page and Off-page SEO done for your site along with highly relevant unique contents that is related to your niche.

    Best of luck.

jhnrang - how much compensation are you prepared to pay to anyone who follows this advice and gets their site permanently banned for following your advice?

Do you know how many sites have been listed this way?

I can't believe that people are still falling for shoemoney's scam. It was nothing more than a linkbaiting lie - he made it up!

Regardless of shoemoney linkbait, there is plenty of corruption in dmoz.

Could you please provide ONE piece of evidence to support your claim.

I see a lot of people making that claim, but never seen anyone back it up.
There is that corrupt DMOZ editor blog, but even that has now been exposed as a spoof.

I also note Matt Cutts responded to a comment on his blog with essentrially the same thing - he had not seen anyone produce the evidence.
