    Promoting via Contests

    Hi,
I am currently promoting a forum via a contest being held for a free Apple iPod shuffle and would like to get some feedback on ideas for promoting the contest.

This particular contest is promoting a web development forum and it is planned that these contests will be held regularly from now on.

A few things im interested in feedback on:
    1. Do you think contests are a good way to promote forums.
    2. What items would you be particularly interested in winning. (no Lamborghinis please )
    3. What ways can you suggest to promote the contests.

    Thanks,
    SM

What I could suggest to you is that you change the prices every month. This will make the contest more interesting.

How do you choose the winner, is it by quality of post or by points system?

All users that meet the post qualifications are entered into a random drawing.

Yes, the plan is to start out with smaller prizes then move to things like laptops, pcs, flat panel tvs etc.

That's a really good. You could also ask your own members for what prices they wanted for that contest. They are more willing to suggest prices that they will win. Good luck in your contest.
